Rainforest World Music Festival

2011.07.01 11:53:56

July is music festival season, not only in Europe.

Ilgi, in its 30th year, is going to Malaysian Borneo to take part in one this regions' most prestigous and famous music festivals, the Rainforest World Music Festival.  Not only will Ilgi perform in concert, the band will teach latvian dances, demonstrate its instruments and share other tidbits at multiple workshops.

When the Rainforest World Music Festival was established in 1998 the two day affair was attended by 300 people.  Since than it has grown rapidly.  In 2010 over 20,000 people attended the internationally recognized three day festival.

The respected world music publication "Songlines" selected the Rainforest World Music Festival as one of the top 25 best music festivals in the world in 2010 and 2011.

The website VirtualTourist.com recommends this Borneo festival as the year's most interesting for world music fans, because music of this variety and quality in such a beautiful, exotic setting is not to be found elsewhere.

This year the granddaddy of this region's music festivals will take place from July 8th through July 10th.  In addition to Ilgi, twenty bands from just as many countries will take part, including: Warsaw Village Band (Poland), Kissmet ( Great Britain), Frigg (Finland), The Shin (Georgia), Lisa Haley and the Zydecats (USA), Kenge Kenge (Congo), Kamerunga (Australia), and others.
